The subjects of the images in this collection at first appear run down and broken. The average passerby could possibly, understandably, not pay much attention to what I have photographed. It is easy to ignore what seems insignificant and unremarkable. Taking time to stop and think, to examine, to appreciate and mull it over enables the viewer to appreciate it for more than what is first apparent.

I made the images for this collection in South Bend, Indiana, where I went to college. The city used to thrive off of manufacturing industry but has since gone into economic decline. I personally believe that it is on the upswing, but others may not feel the same. I feel that some people, many of them Notre Dame students, don't put in enough effort into getting out into the community and experiencing what the city has to offer. As a result, they are quick to dismiss the city as lackluster. It is my hope that after seeing this collection, people are more willing to view the city with a fresh perspective.
